Let’s be honest, mash-ups are almost always crap. They tend to be either some made-for-youtube faux-hype shit or, even worse, those that occupy the Hype Machine charts with about a hundred different platinum-selling artists crushed into four minutes of noise.
Good mash-ups don’t deserve to be called mash-ups. I can’t think of an alternative but they keep much better company, much like the Rihanna/Prince pop gem the Clique boys have just fired out.
Aeroplane recently announced that Vito is continuing alone, Stephan is off to pursue pastures new. I saw them just once before the split, and this surprise, first featured in their Essential Mix, had everyone up. They have decided to give it away as a thank you to the 10,000+ fans on facebook for their loyalty and support. We’re aware that we’re a tiny drop in the ocean and that this will be featured on plenty of blogs, but we’ve been big fans of Aeroplane for a long time and to support everything they do seems like a fair duty.
The best ideas are beautifully simple and simplistically beautiful.
